Certification Actions
Certifications verify that an applicant or tenant is eligible to be in the housing program they have applied for. Certification actions in the doorways app allow you to keep track of the certification status and the recertification date for tenants and applicants. There are two types of these actions, Interim certifications, and Annual certifications.
Interim Certification:
This certification is done whenever there’s a life event that would change the monthly charge to the tenant. For instance, a change in income, household composition, or health status. Interim Certifications take place when it is not the time for the annual recertification.
Step-by-Step Guide to Performing an Interim Certification in Doorways:
- From the individual tenant/household overview page, click on the toolbox tab to the left of the screen.
- Mouse over the “actions” button, then click “Interim Certification.” The certification wizard will now run:
- Confirm Unit – Select whether the unit is the correct one or not, then click “Next”:
A. Unit Information: Information about the unit that the household is currently moved into, including address, program, project, and the number of bedrooms.B. Unit Confirmation: Click “This is the correct unit…” if the unit information is correct. Select “…This is not the correct unit…” if the unit information shown is incorrect. If the unit is incorrect, clicking “Next” will bring you to the move-out wizard.C. Next Button: Proceeds to the next step in the interim certification wizard.-
In the second step of the wizard, you select the effective date, and click “Next”:
A. Dates: Enter an effective for this interim certification. you cannot edit the next certification date in an interim certification.B. Previous Certification Review: Includes information on the household’s last action type, the corresponding effective date, and rent amount prior to the new certification.C. Previous Button: Returns to the confirmation step of the interim certification.D. Next Button: Proceeds to the next step in the interim certification wizard. - Loan/Rent Details – Fixed or Rent Calculation Rent Calculation (TTP Method):
A. Fixed Rent Qualification: Yes/No.
B. Total Tenant Payment Information: Detailed information on how the Tenant Charge amount was calculated.
C. Print TTP Worksheet: Clicking this button opens a .pdf of the TTP worksheet.
D. Previous Button: Returns to the Effective Date step of the wizard.
E. Next Button: Proceeds to the Rent Details step of the Interim Certification.
Fixed Rent:
A. Fixed Rent Qualification: Yes/No.
B. Rent Details: Enter the fixed rent dollar amount and the reason for the fixed rent.
C. Previous Button: Returns to the Effective Date step of the wizard.
D. Next Button: Proceeds to the Rent Details step of the Interim Certification. -
Review & Complete:
Review the final information, if it is correct, click “Finish.” You will be redirected to the household overview page, and the certification action will be listed as the latest action in the Household History.
A. Move-In Information: Including household, unit information, move-in date, and loan terms/monthly rent amount.
B. Additional comments: Enter any additional comments on this move-in.
C. Previous Button: Return to the Rent Details step.
D. Finish Button: Click to confirm and complete the move-in process.
You will then be redirected to the household overview page, and the certification action will be listed as the latest action in the Household History.
Annual Recertification:
Annual Certifications are done based on the timing schedule set up by the Housing Authority per the Program configuration in Doorways. By default, these are set to occur Annually.
Step-by-Step Guide to Performing an Annual Certification in Doorways:
- From the individual tenant/household overview page, click on the toolbox tab to the left of the screen.
- Mouse over the “actions” button, then click “Annual Certification.” The certification wizard will appear:
- Confirm Unit – Select whether the unit is the correct one or not, then click “Next”:
C. Next Button: Proceeds to the next step in the interim certification wizard.

C. Previous Button: Returns to the confirmation step of the interim certification.
D. Next Button: Proceeds to the next step in the interim certification wizard.
